| We
want to share in your travel experiences! Canadian Destinations
now offers the opportunity to publish stories you have written
about your own excursions throughout the country. What gems
have you discovered? Who have you come across in your travels
that inspired you? What humorous or exciting story do you have
that people will want to know about? Send it our way and you
may find it published through Canadian Destinations!
How
it works:
1. Send in your (well-edited) stories (and a few images, if
you have them) by email at stories@CanadianTopDestinations.com
2. Canadian Destinations staff will review each article under
consideration.
3. If approved we will publish your story as per our editorial
line up, which is strategically, regionally, and seasonally
determined.
Submission
Guidelines:
The Editorial Department does not accept queries over the phone.
All story
ideas should be submitted by query letter (email only) and should
contain:
• A brief query letter outlining the story idea, including
its angle, direction, elements and proposed length.
• A brief list of where the writer has been previously
published
• The availability of photographs or other artwork to
illustrate the story
• All necessary contact information, including phone number
and email address
• A full or partial manuscript
• Examples of previously published work are encouraged
Submissions
are preferred by email. Unsolicited mailed material will not
be sent back without a self-addressed, stamped envelope or international
postal coupon. Canadian Destinations requires that you inform
us of whether or not your submission has been previously published
in another publication, or is scheduled to be. We also require
that you inform us as to any flights, accommodations, meals,
etc. that were given to you free of charge as part of a FAM
or press trip. Writers submitting story ideas should be aware
that the editors at Canadian Destinations may have already assigned
or be working on a similar story. At this point there are no
fixed word limitations at this time. You can target your query
for inclusion in a particular section of the magazine, but the
editors may feel it’s more appropriate for another department
or even a special issue.
We will
do our best to reply to your query within one month.
Mailing
Instructions
All editorial and photographic material should be emailed to
the Editor at admin@CanadianTopDestinations.com
Editing
All articles must be submitted in a grammatically edited and
ready-to-print format. Any major changes in length, focus, style
and structure will be discussed with the writer. If the writer,
however, is unavailable for consultation, changes will be made
independent of the writer. The writer should provide possible
headlines and decks (sub-headlines) with their story, or will
be asked to do so close to the time of publication. Every assignment
accepted for Canadian Destinations will be confirmed by a letter
or e-mail from the editor.
Fact
Checking and Sources
It is the responsibility of the writer to verify, before submitting
text, the spelling of all proper names, place names, foreign
spellings and addresses. Writers should be prepared to submit
contact names and their phone numbers and email addresses so
that Canadian Destinations may fact check the story and confirm
assertions or opinions attributed to individuals or organizations.
Writers must be prepared to verify any facts called into question
by Canadian Destinations. As well, they must be willing to double-
and triple-check and re-check anything as required by the editors.
Any information called into question by Canadian Destinations
that cannot by verified will not be published.
Expenses
At this point, Canadian Destinations does not cover any expenses
to photojournalists or travel writers or provide remuneration
for published work.
Publication
Circumstances may arise where an assigned story may be held
over for one or more issues. If this happens, the writer will
be told in advance. Canadian Destinations reserves the right
not to publish an article. If a story already published or scheduled
to be published in Canadian Destinations is sold for secondary
publication in another magazine, we require that the article
appear in Canadian Destinations six months before appearing
anywhere else (unless otherwise permitted by the editor). We
also require that a reprint note to the effect that the story
first appeared in Canadian Destinations.
Photographic
Submissions
Original material should not be sent to Canadian Destinations
unless it has been specifically requested by the editors. Canadian
Destinations is not responsible for any lost or damaged materials
submitted. Individual photographs or portfolios should not be
sent via mail unless requested by the editors. Canadian Destinations
requires Hi-resolution digital images unless for published material.
Lower resolution images will suffice at the time of your initial
submission.
Articles
submitted may not contain any description of sexuality or violence.
Keep it family friendly!
Canadian
Destinations solely has the right to refuse to publish any article
at any time and at its sole discretion.
