WHAT TO DO
Halifax Citadel Historic Site
High above Halifax sits a star shaped citadel, one of the great British fortifications of the 19th century. It's one of the most visited national historic sites in Canada. Animators of the 78th Highland Regiment on sentry duty greet visitors as they cross the drawbridge. Don't miss your opportunity to have your picture taken with these animators reenacting life of the 1860's.
Be sure to catch the firing of the noon day gun which happens atop the ramparts, every day except Christmas Day. Halifax Citedel Website

Pier 21 National Historic Site
Located at the southern end of the Harbourwalk you'll find Pier 21 - "Canada's Ellis Island". From the 1920's to the 1970's, Pier 21 was Canada's 'front door' to over one million immigrants, wartime evacuees, refugees, troops, war brides and their children. Experience the history of this National Historic Site which has been transformed into a testament to Canada's profoundly
emotional immigration experience. The sheer impact of the interactive displays, virtual projections and abundance of fascinating images will overwhelm you. Genealogy enthusiasts will marvel at the resource information and library. www.pier21.ca

Peggys' Cove
According to legend, Peggys' Cove was named after the only survivor of a schooner that ran aground and sank in 1800...a woman named Margret. Local folk called her "Peggy" and her home came to be known as Peggy's Cove.

The original lighthouse was built in 1868. Exactly 100 years later in 1968 the Campbell family opened a five-table tea room and the Sou'Wester was born. Over the past 34 years it has grown into a 180-seat restaurant and two-level gift shop with one of the largest selections of giftware in the Maritimes.
