Brunswick is
a unique gem within Canada. A culmination of
Migmag, Acadian, Brayon, Scottish, Irish and
Loyalist cultures have created a unique flavour.
We recently ventured down the Fundy Trail with
the goal of identifying some of the top destinations
for Canadian travelers, especially for families.
We were pleasantly surprised that the opportunities
are numerous and distinctive. For tourist news
to the region, please allow us to highlight
some of the must-visit destinations.

The
Rossmount Inn |
| The
Inn, a 3-storey manor house is part of
an 87 acre estate set between the forest
and the sea. It includes Chamcook Mountain,
the highest point in the Passamaquoddy
Bay area with breathtaking vistas over
the Bay, Chamcook Lake, St. Croix |
| River
and the coast of Maine. Each of
the 18 guest rooms all have private
bathrooms and unique antiques..The
property was first owned by one
of the Townsend brothers of Chamcook
who were shipbuilders and cabinet
makers. In 1889, James A. Townsend
then of Brooklyn, decided to tear
down the original house and rebuild
a private residence. In 1902, the
Henry Phipps Rosses came to Robbinson
Maine to visit a former friend of
Henry’s. The Frontier Steamboat |
|
Company operated a day route between
Calais, Robbinson, St. Andrews and
Eastport. The Rosses and their friends
ferried over for a picnic on Chamcook
Mountain. This scenic site formed
part of the Townsend property which
was for sale. When the Rosses purchased
the property they renamed it “Rossmount”.

and not visit the famous Hopewell Rocks

Reversing
Falls |
| While
in the city one cannot miss the infamous
Reversing Falls, where the powerful
tides of the Bay of Fundy, the highest
in the world I might add, do something
that doesn’t happen anywhere
else – |
|
| they
push the St. John River backwards. At low
tide the water rushes through the mouth
of the Saint John Harbour and into the downward-flowing
St. John River. This creates turbulent rapids
as it encounters two ridges and a bottleneck
gorge at Reversing Falls. Website |

Fundy
Tide Runners |
| .One
highlight for me was whale watching
with Fundy Tide Runners where you
can search for whales on a comfortable
yet agile 25 foot zodiac boat, which,
because of is size can get up close
and personal with the marine life.
You will safely explore the teeming
tidal waters of the Bay of
|
|

Fundy and view Finback, Minke and Humpback
whales, porpoises, dolphins, seals and eagles

Opera
Bistro |
|
If you can try only a few New Brunswick
restaurants, make sure Opera Bistro is on
your list. The restaurant, located at 60
Prince William Street in Saint John, opened
in the city’s uptown area in July,
2005. Since then, Opera Bistro has received
national attention for its style, customer
service and its great food and wine offerings.
Opera Bistro is
|
|
|
the only New Brunswick restaurant that has been
profiled on the Food Network and the Fine Living
Network. However, the accolades don’t stop
there as the restaurant recently received the
prestigious honour of being selected by Enroute
Magazine as one of 25 restaurants to watch in
